Return from Jane Doe Conference, University of Ottawa

Hello again,

Back from the Jane Doe conference in Ottawa.

The conference opened with a prayer delivered in the Aboriginal tongue and followed with intense information.

The panel of key note speakers of prominent authors, professors, lawyers and women from crisis centres across Canada rallied and shared their knowledge of the legal process of sexual assault; the justice system and how it views this horrific crime against women.

A couple deterrents women have when they consider reporting their sexual assault is due to the fact that it is difficult to prove, and the possibility that a sexual assault case could be dismissed or the perpetrator could be acquitted.  They feel that these possibilities could be worse than the assault itself.

I connected with some wonderful women and men and offered some of my personal experiences; legal, justice and personal endeavors over the last 30 years from January 1979 to my civil trial in September 2008.

All in all it was a lovely two day conference hosted by the University of Ottawa.  Once again I would like to thank the University and Jane Doe for inviting me.
